Sir_Robin | joerg: thanks, will check | 00:00 |
---|---|---|
joerg | to start with, switch WLAN powersavings-mode in N900 to minimum | 00:00 |
joerg | the rest is a subject for your WLAN AP, hardly anything N900 can do about it | 00:01 |
Sir_Robin | joerg: wlan on my N900 doesn't work... I suspect it's software... I have 3G mobile connection... but there's.options to mitigate flawed connections issues | 00:02 |
joerg | hmmm, I guess I failed to decode this | 00:06 |
Sir_Robin | heh, hadto add --no-chech-certificate to wget parameters | 00:08 |
Sir_Robin | so, long ago I installed several GUI app/package managers, but I should remove fapman? no problem | 00:13 |
Sir_Robin | ok, purged it with apt-get, and it was the GUI I used to day to try upgrade mc - copied it's log to termbin, but the missing dependency problems have been there for ages, no matter if I use some GUI frontend or apt-get | 00:21 |
joerg | your "GUI frontend" been fapman and fapman nuked your system, the packages are gone now because of fapman did "auto-remove" years ago, is my guess | 00:23 |
Sir_Robin | I really wanted Emacs on this | 00:23 |
joerg | [1 Nov 2023 22:44:53] <joerg> and I have no idea other than fresh installation from scratch, of how to recover from fapman-introduced system breakage | 00:25 |
joerg | whoich doesn't imply there was no way to recover, just I don't know of it | 00:25 |
Sir_Robin | joerg: but, I've fixed my repos and most packages install fine... what kind of breakage does this fapman do then, and why is it allowed to exist in the repos!? | 00:26 |
Sir_Robin | and how would I even do fresh install? | 00:27 |
joerg | I don't think it exists in "safe" repos | 00:27 |
joerg | >>what kind of breakage does this fapman do then<< I have no idea what particularly it did. You provided hardly enough info to enable us to conclude you're using fapman instead of hildon app manager | 00:30 |
joerg | for obvious reasons I never used fapman, so I can't know details | 00:30 |
Sir_Robin | sounds like major suck, if my system has some breakage because of it... it does surely, I hadnt even extras when I've installed it | 00:31 |
Sir_Robin | I will not again, but tell me, can you install nano (for small exammple) without dependency issues? | 00:35 |
joerg | my N900 system isn't up to date any more, I guess. I am not even sure I have all the repos replaced. let's see... | 00:36 |
joerg | https://i.imgur.com/fekXilq.jpg dudumdidum | 00:39 |
joerg | Sir_Robin: https://termbin.com/4bzm and works | 00:45 |
joerg | https://termbin.com/w2e3 | 00:51 |
Sir_Robin | damn | 00:56 |
Sir_Robin | I'm saddened that this fapfest was in fact available in regular repo's at least some years | 00:58 |
Sir_Robin | that may have broken my wifi as well :( | 00:59 |
joerg | yes, possibly | 01:01 |
Sir_Robin | I'll look into that reinstalling (a lot to backup) and ask help on Maemo forums for this and possible other solutions, but it's a sad and scary situation | 01:07 |
Sir_Robin | at least now I know the real culprit | 01:09 |
joerg | not sure | 01:09 |
Sir_Robin | it sounds likely | 01:10 |
Sir_Robin | so thanks a lot anyhow | 01:10 |
joerg | might also be an issue with your "sources.list" et al, repository config | 01:11 |
joerg | damn, maemo.org is dog slow | 01:11 |
Sir_Robin | I had no clue of fap issues... and I can show it, there shouldn't be issues there | 01:12 |
joerg | and indeed fapman _is_ in extras :-/ | 01:12 |
Sir_Robin | yes | 01:13 |
joerg | it's like another millenium in the past, when we argued with the fapman devel about the issues. Can't recall what been the conclusions and if any action been taken | 01:15 |
Sir_Robin | joerg: my sources.list: https://termbin.com/zxdg | 01:16 |
joerg | sources.list suggests you already have it messed up. MY sources /etc/apt/sources.list lists: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2009-10-30 12:39 /etc/apt/sources.list | 01:19 |
joerg | http://maemo.cloud-7.de/maemo5/et_al/HAM-catalogs/ | 01:20 |
joerg | open up microB web browser on N900 and click on this link | 01:21 |
joerg | well, on this one: http://maemo.cloud-7.de/maemo5/et_al/HAM-catalogs/recommended.install | 01:21 |
joerg | check https://termbin.com/w2e3 "enable-catalogs basic" ff lines, to get an idea what's actually involved in a correct sources.list[.d/*] config via Hildon Application Manager "catalogs" setting | 01:23 |
joerg | Sir_Robin: get rid of the testing repo too | 01:25 |
joerg | # Fremantle Extras-testing (browse) | 01:25 |
joerg | deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras-testing/ fremantle free non-free | 01:25 |
joerg | deb-src http://repository.maemo.org/extras-testing/ fremantle free | 01:25 |
Sir_Robin | joerg: ok, will check... but I have the testing commented out | 01:26 |
Sir_Robin | oops | 01:27 |
joerg | https://wiki.maemo.org/Repository | 01:29 |
Sir_Robin | anyway, I set it up with maemo.org repositories page and nobody else said anything about me having anything wrong... that page | 01:30 |
Sir_Robin | I think | 01:30 |
joerg | https://wiki.maemo.org/User:Joerg_rw/tools might be useful for you | 01:31 |
Sir_Robin | anyway, good to get a differing opinion | 01:31 |
Sir_Robin | ok, that one link opened, I guess the proper GUI app manager, and added two repos that (I checked loading their URL's in MicroB seemed to, among other things, have the curses library that was dependency issue with installing nano, htop and several others and upgrading mc... so this is promissing, so big thanks if that solves the dependencies I've been missing!!!!! | 03:02 |
Sir_Robin | YES! It updated flawlessly the mc... so maybe now nano-opt, emacs25 and others will too | 03:06 |
joerg | so glad it fixed the issues for you :-) | 07:27 |
