jrgIt’s fine. I just needed typical user end OBD2 stuff02:05
jrgI already had the BT OBD2 reader02:06
jrgIt used to work with carman but i doubt that has been updated in years ... i just got some mac software that works with it and called it a day02:06
jrgWould be nice to use something smaller than my MacBook tho.. i just don’t feel like buying a new one02:06
xesbencoh: halftux: there was still one stale pid blocking repo sync. Now it is working again:  http://maemo.org/packages/package_instance/view/fremantle_extras-devel_free_armel/an/1.2-1maemo1/02:20
jrgSo is diablo EOL?04:17
jrgWhat has become of Maemo lately? Any good news?04:18
jrgI vaguely remember there being a “new” device which required you sent in your old N900 to have the board swapped04:19
brolin_empeyjrg: If you have a mobile computer running Android then you can use Torque or AndrOBD.04:21
jrgbrolin_empey: would be nice to hard wire a pi / touchscreen into the car for those things heh04:22
jrgI could always just get a newer reader and use my iphone04:23
jrgJust figured the N810 could be put to some use for that. Doesn’t seem so though. Carman probably will never be updated.04:23
brolin_empeyYou are probably thinking of the Neo900, which is basically a dead project by now.  The Maemo Leste project is active;  you may be able to use Maemo Leste on the upcoming PinePhone.04:24
jrgI think it’s too late for me.04:27
jrgI’m already stuck in the apple ecosystem. I do miss my N900 though.04:27
brolin_empeyYou need a Bluetooth or Wireless LAN↔OBD adapter with a special part required by Apple to use such an adapter with Apple iOS.  Most of the adapters do not have this part because it increases the cost and is only required by Apple.  I know this because my uncle uses an iPhone and was unable to use the adapter that works with Android.04:29
jrgYeah. They are far more expensive.04:31
jrgI didnt look too hard but i’m thinking around $75-10004:32
jrgI mean it’s just a convenience so it isn’t that big of a deal. Just would have been nice to put my N810 to use other than hanging out in a drawer. Carman doesn’t seem to work at all now even though i remember it working04:32
jrgWeird tbh. Don’t see why it wouldn’t i think all the deps etc are the same.04:33
brolin_empeyI was not able to get my N900 to interface with my car but it was too many years ago for me to remember which application(s) I tried.  I currently use Android OS 8 on an LG G5, which is nice but would be nicer if it had an AMOLED display instead of an IPS AMLCD.  Torque and AndrOBD work for me with a low-cost Bluetooth↔OBD adapter.  I originally used VAG-COM, which became VCDS Lite, on a Windows notebook computer to interface with my car whilst I still had04:44
brolin_empey a 1998 Volkswagen New Beetle TDI but in 2014 I had to replace my car and I switched from the N900 to Android.04:44
brolin_empeyI never had any of the predecessors of the N900 because they did not have integrated cellular telephony capability;  I am idealistic and want to carry only one computer with me, which means I mostly do not use notebook computers, which suck for my use case anyway because of their monolithic hardware design.04:55
brolin_empeyI was originally using a notebook computer with a worn out battery for VAG-COM so I had to run an alternating current extension cord from the house to the end of the driveway where my car was parked to use VAG-COM in my car.05:08
bencohxes: awesome, thanks a lot! :)10:06
bencohFatPhil: that means both packages are already in :)10:07

DocScrutinizer05is  maemo diablo extras repo still around? and what about the nokia diablo repos?14:20
bencohdiablo extras is still around14:20
bencohas for the original repos, iirc merlin1991 has an offline copy14:21
bencoh(well, maybe an online one even)14:21
bencohsadly I didn't mirror it back then14:22
DocScrutinizer05that would be damn useful, since http://maemo.muarf.org/apt-mirror/mirror/downloads.maemo.nokia.com/14:22
jrgbrolin_empey: a piece of me gave up on a “computer in the pocket”14:23
jrgThe N900 was the last one heh. Nothing that had come out after that was as good as or at least on par with.14:24
DocScrutinizer05full ack14:24
jrgI’ll just be one of the sheep and stick with the iPhone. I’ll ssh if I need to do “computer stuff”14:24
DocScrutinizer05my problem is my damn android phone is completely out of control14:25
DocScrutinizer05no friggin clue how to control the simplest stuff on it14:25
bencohjrg: if all you want is a "computer in the pocket", droid4 is getting close14:26
DocScrutinizer05recently I had to *google* how to enable/disbale display of own phone number (CLIR)14:26
jrgDocScrutinizer05: yeah I found it’s just easy enough to deal with iOS and its quirks. The only major one being the background time limit. But just as easy to fix with screen for shells and a push module for znc with palaver.14:26
jrgAnd advanced playback helps when palaver reconnects to znc14:26
jrgthe N900 was so awesome tho.14:27
DocScrutinizer05this doesn't sound like you'd get a notification when somebody pings you14:27
jrgNot sure about pings. Messages sure. And mentions.14:28
jrgI think maybe notifications about znc issues too.14:28
DocScrutinizer05you'd prolly need a ZNCplugin that sends you a SMS when somebody mentions your nick14:28
jrgWell. It’s a push but I suppose similar.14:29
jrgAnd yes. Palaver has a push module for znc14:29
jrgMutter was better. Absolutely awesome iOS irc app. But the dev gave up on it. Palaver is a good 2nd place tho.14:29
jrgTbh. Maemo 5 never really had a decent irc app. I think xchat was the only one? I typically just used ssh and irssi14:30
DocScrutinizer05xchat is awesome14:31
jrgBut then again. The N900 was underpowered out the gate.14:31
jrgI’m not saying it is bad. It’s just a bit cluttered in Maemo.14:31
DocScrutinizer05~jrxchat14:31
infobotwell, jrxchat is <DocScrutinizer05> iSicelo: regarding xchat: some users say it changes from 'unbearable' to 'best IRC client on N900' by using: http://wiki.maemo.org/User:Joerg_rw/xchat/   <iSicelo> yes. i am one of those users who praised your 'tweaks'14:31
jrgHeh. I just wish the messaging app had irc support on the N900.14:32
jrgThe messaging app was awesome on it.14:32
jrgIt’s just that the low powered soc was just not able to keep up with the times. I had a USB port snap off on me for one of them too.14:33
* DocScrutinizer05 has 6 pristine N810 he wants to revive14:33
jrgWhich I guess was a common problem that I didn’t know about.14:34
jrgDocScrutinizer05: is there an Android distro for them?14:34
DocScrutinizer05nope14:34
jrgI might try to install android or some stock Linux on it for using it as an OBD2 monitor.14:34
DocScrutinizer05not as far as I know14:34
jrgBlah lol.14:34
jrgN810 had closed Maemo bits too I’m guessing?14:35
DocScrutinizer05you don't want to, you'll break charging at least. You want easydeb and run ODB inside that14:35
jrgI vaguely remember N900 having open vs closed issues14:35
jrgOh. Forgot about easydeb.14:35
jrgI’ll play with it when I get back home.14:36
jrgIt would be nice to put it to some use.14:36
DocScrutinizer05same here :-)14:37
DocScrutinizer05but I need to update those to diablo fist14:37
DocScrutinizer05they're still chinook(?)14:38
DocScrutinizer05first*14:38
jrgMine is running Diablo already. Is that even updated anymore?14:38
DocScrutinizer05nope14:38
DocScrutinizer05no wasy14:38
jrgWell. You never know heh.14:39
bencohjrg: if you're looking for a "new use" for your n900, you should have a look at maemo-leste14:39
DocScrutinizer05b ut it still should "just work" except prolly for stuff like ssh etc14:39
jrgbencoh: I don’t have an N900 anymore.14:39
bencohah14:39
jrgI have an N810 still.14:40
DocScrutinizer05bencoh: I thought maemo-leste was not available for N900 and never planned to be?14:40
jrgWhat is it for?14:40
jrgSomeone mentioned a new device earlier.14:40
bencohDocScrutinizer05: uh? it's one of the main (and best supported) target14:40
DocScrutinizer05aha14:40
jrgSo there is not a new supported Maemo device other than the Neo900?14:42
jrgOr one planned?14:42
* DocScrutinizer05 screams and runs away14:42
bencohohmy :(14:43
jrgHaha. Someone was talking about a device earlier.14:44
jrgThat would support leste14:44
jrgah. PinePhone14:45
jrgJust looked at it. Sort of seems like another pandora pipe dream14:47
DocScrutinizer05hah, pyra. I recall "who's gonna be shipping first, Neo900 or Pyra" seems it's a dead race14:53
Wizzupjrg: I already have the devkit14:54
WizzupIt'll ship in a few more months14:54
Wizzup(pinephone)14:54
jrgWizzup: I don’t know. I’ll believe it when I see it. Doesn’t look like it has a qwerty tho.14:56
Wizzupno, it does not. it will feature some bus on the back. also have the pinetab(let) here, which does feature keyboard.14:56
Wizzuppine64 project lead is quite responsive, and I'm pretty confident they'll get it out on time and for the cost they state (150 dollar)14:57
Wizzupthey have bus on the back (iirc i2c) and vbus (wireless charging) because I asked for keyboard possibilities14:57
FireFlywait, 150? I thought I'd heard 30014:57
Wizzupwhere did you read that?14:58
FireFlyMust've misremembered14:58
jrgIt will be neat if it works out. But I had higher expectations for the canonical devices.14:58
Wizzuphttps://liliputing.com/2019/06/pinephone-149-linux-smartphone-could-support-ubuntu-sailfish-maemo-luneos-and-more.html14:58
Wizzupjrg: getting something about might lead to a v214:58
jrgThey had a good 1 week showing. But kind of tapered off.14:58
Wizzupin any case - for that cheap I think people will get it 'just to have it' too14:58
jrgWizzup: I’ll hang back and see how it goes. I’d love something like a newer N900 but probably not going to happen. Market is pretty brutal.14:59
jrgMaemo without hw acceleration. :) that brings back memories.15:01
Wizzupit mostly works with the free driver now, too15:01
Wizzup(3d accel)15:01
jrgWell I’m hopeful it pans out. I’d jump onboard if it did.15:02
jrgProbably as a secondary device. Or if they had a qwerty version in the future.15:03
Wizzuphonestly I am most 'worried' about proper SW on the pinephone15:03
Wizzupnone of the project apart from maybe ubports has usable calls ;)15:03
jrgSW?15:03
Wizzupsoftware15:03
Wizzupuserspace15:03
Wizzupleste can do quite some stuff, but there's no usable browser, etc.15:03
jrgOh.15:03
Wizzupanyway, #maemo-leste may be better fit15:04
jrgPort microb lol.15:04
jrgI’m sure there will be one.  Seems kind of necessary.15:04
Wizzupsome of the ones in debian repo work quite ok, but it's not quite the same yet15:04
jrgThere’s always lynx/links(2)15:04
jrgThere was a neat little proxyesque project that would convert html to ascii / ansi15:05
Wizzupall of that will just work, but I mean a modern and usable one ;)15:06
Wizzuphttps://maemo-leste.github.io/images/droid4-various-apps.png15:06
bencohmidori is okayish15:07
DocScrutinizer05merlin1991: you got diablo base repos?15:08
bencohIt'd probably benefit from a webkit upgrade though15:08
DocScrutinizer05future of webbrowsing: VNC and your own server with octocore15:15
DocScrutinizer05it's bizarre and silly15:16
DocScrutinizer05I'd say if a protocol like HTML which basically is meant to be a descriptive language like e.g. postscript etc takes more resources on target than a raw transfer of complete desktop display and mouse and keyboard events in realtime, then something got SEVERELY messed up and FUBAR15:19
DocScrutinizer05all that processing oughta be done on *server* not target15:20
DocScrutinizer05oh Turkey builds KZs now?15:22
DocScrutinizer05"50 new prisons for up to 500,000 people"15:22
Wizzupdroid renders a lot of pages quite fast, and it's a really old device, so not sure if there's such a big deal15:30
DocScrutinizer05if all the people arrested for "support of terrorism", meh if only 5% of those actually had suüpported terrorism, then Erdogan would have been killed years ago already and "Terrorism" was the power in command now15:30
halftuxxes: thank you19:30
halftuxFatPhil: I recognized that you wanted your patched "an" v0.95 and I uploaded the 1.2-1 from jessie. I can upload your version as "an-phil" package if you like19:34
halftuxFatPhil: and how about wbritish package? dictionary which you can use with "an"?19:39
